About Me
I like to travel, have lived and worked all over but always seem to migrate back to Cambridge. I'm easily distracted, know the way to San Jose (discovered cruise control works at 100mph on that journey), and love salmon. Excellent sense of direction, but can be hopelessly disorganised at times. I enjoy the outdoors, cycling, walking and visiting National Trust properties.
I have a broad and varied sense of humour. I'm open-minded and insightful, enjoy meeting new people, and insatiably curious about life! Can be subversive and will question authority when the need arises! (but not in a barrack lawyer kind of way) My female friends are all great, but they're all either married, gay or 20 years too old. I'm extremely open minded (well you have to be to enjoy william shatner's version of "rocket man", however I digress), but can be opinionated, athough I always love to hear others points of view, and can be willing to change my views when presented with a suitable argument.
Equally at ease in all variety of social situations from cheap beat bars to classy restaurants and rock concerts to classical opera. When suitably motivated I occupy my spare time renovating my crumbly old house, an ongoing task! I'm extremely loyal to my friends and always willing to help out. (I once flew to Italy to rescue the daughter of a friend who was in a car accident out there). Oh and I can cook, make for witty conversation and if I get my pilot's license, will take you flying!
I love listening to all kinds of music, and can often be found with my earphones in listening to the ipod. Enjoy cycle touring, currently exploring East Anglia bit by bit. Eat healthily, and have mostly eschewed the car (although I still have it) for cycling and the train, which are healthier and less stressful!
If you have that certain "chavoire-faire", we're probably not compatible. Also, don't describe yourself as athletic if you're not, and your photos give it away. It indicates a certain looseness with the truth from the start! Right, with that out of the way, hopefully you're someone who knows that there is more to life than spending every friday night curled up on the sofa with a glass of wine and a dvd or getting yourself drunk at the local pub 7 nights a week. I can however see merit in doing both these things in moderation! (Although I don't currently drink... um, despite that photo of me in the glenfiddich distillery in Feb 2007 knocking back the whisky). I'm not that virtous though, you'll have to ask why I'm not drinking alcohol at present.
Possibly you're a country kind of girl (as in countryside, not music, that could end in tears), but on the other hand, someone who lives in the city is fine too. You have reached that age where yes, it might be nice to settle down at last and banish those one-night stands into the past. You look after yourself (and not because you're trying to get a man, but because you appreciate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle - notwithstanding this coming from a man who smoked for 10 years).
Having said all that, I'm not entirely sure who I'm after, my friends all give me conflicting advice, and I've long since given up trying to understand. A bonus if you can write full sentences without resorting to "txt spk". It'd be nice if you enjoy cycling and the outdoors, but it's not important. The ability to read something other than Dan Brown is a bonus (try shopping for books somewhere other than tesco). Why do people say they don't have time to read - what are you doing with your time!
Would love to find someone who'd like to explore the UK (and further...) with me. Planning to try and travel the length of the countr from Thurso to Penzance this year, maybe next year on the bicycle...

First Date
Depends on the time of year innit? It's fun to go wandering round Cambridge on a balmy summers evening?
In this winter weather? Plenty of spontaneous things to do? How about a day out in Amsterdam? Hmm, perhaps not a first date... how about a surprise?
