Do you want children?

About Me
I'm a decent guy who's easy to get along with, and at the same time one who also enjoys the occasional heated debate. I enjoy good food, great conversation, open and curious minds, music lovers, activists, people who care about more than money. I love diversity in some things, but I'm a creature of habit in many ways. Full of contradictions, I suppose. But then who isn't, right? I don't mind being goofy, clowning around, hamming it up a bit. There's a time and place for everything.
I have a beautiful daughter who was born May 11, 1992. You do the math. If I write her age down, it'll be wrong for almost all of the future, which, if my calculations are correct, could be a very long time.
I'm looking for someone who is not a type 'A' personality, but someone with ideas, beliefs, and passions of their own. Someone's profile said "I want to feel butterflies when I meet you" and I thought it was corny, but you know what? I think I want that too.
It's silly to have a drop down box that forces you to decide whether you're looking for "Long Term" or "Dating" or "Friends". I'm looking for all of those things, really. And you should be, too.
My favourite movie of all time is Harold and Maude. Nine out of ten people haven't even seen it, so I don't know why I'm mentioning it here, but what the heck.
Oh, and I'm a big Bob Dylan fan.
UPDATE: Frequently Asked Questions about Why I Mentioned Harold and Maude:
Q. Harold and Maude is about a teenage boy falling in love with an octogenarian. Did you add that bit to your profile to indicate that you are looking for an older woman?
A. No. I would actually prefer someone close to my own age, though I don't rule anything out. Besides, I was born in 1962 -- I'm getting up there in age myself -- so a 50 year age difference (as in the movie) is unlikely without also committing necrophilia.
Q. That movie is OLD. Why would you like an old movie...
A. Get real. Ever read Shakespeare? The Bible? St. Augustine? Why does everyone think that everything worthwhile ever created was made in the last year?
Q. OK, So what DO you like about the movie? What does it mean to you?
A. Here is a quote from a message I sent to someone else explaining why Harold and Maude is my most beloved movie of all time:
"Harold and Maude just says exactly what the human condition is: you are absolutely guaranteed to lose what you love the most in life (either you or they will die). That being the case, how is it that some people are like Maude, and are completely immersed in the joy of life and connected to everything, including every little animal and plant, knowing the end that all of us face? What gives people hope against death and loss? To me, its still just a mystery. I don't know the answer, but "Harold and Maude" asked the question in an unforgettable way.
I'm a bit like Maude (infinite hope) and a bit like Harold (infinite resignation). And I guess we all are, and that's what makes it a great movie."
First Date
Hmm... first date. I think it's the second date that really counts :-) But I guess I'd be happy just to go for a drink someplace where it's quiet enough for us to listen to one another without turning up our hearing aids. Just kidding. About the hearing aid, that is.
